Some patients are ideal candidates for a procedure known as oncoplastic reduction, which combines the removal of cancerous tissues with a cosmetic procedure to reduce the size of the breasts.
The Procedure Itself
An oncoplastic breast reduction surgery begins with the complete removal of the tumor and any other cancerous tissues that may be present. While these tissues are removed, a small margin of healthy tissues around the tumor will also be excised. This helps Dr. Srinivasa and her team ensure that any and all dangerous tissues have been completely removed.
Once the lumpectomy has been performed successfully, the plastic surgery component of the procedure will begin. Breast reduction techniques will be used to reduce the size of the breast, creating a natural and perky shape. If desired, the size of the other breast can be reduced at the same time, for an even greater sense of symmetry between the two breasts.
Our patients particularly appreciate the fact that this procedure eliminates the need for them to experience any significant asymmetry: Since both procedures are performed at the same time, patients wake up with a symmetrical bust that looks just as good as it did before their operation, if not better.
