Oncoplastic Breast Reduction with Dr. Srinivasa

An oncoplastic procedure refers to any surgery that combines plastic surgery techniques with an oncological goal—in the case of oncoplastic breast reduction, a lumpectomy surgery is performed in combination with a breast reduction procedure. This is typically ideal for larger-breasted women who have ample amounts of breast tissue to spare, and who are experiencing the earlier stages of their illness when lumpectomy is a more viable option.

If you think oncoplastic breast reduction might be the ideal procedure for you, we’re here to help guide you through the final steps on your journey to true recovery. Reach out to the Institute for Advanced Breast Reconstruction at our Los Angeles or Thousand Oaks locations and learn more about how we can help you today.

The Benefits of Oncoplastic Breast Reduction

Every patient is different, and the specifics of your illness—along with your body’s physical characteristics—will help Dr. Srinivasa and her team guide you to the procedure that is right for you. We take a highly patient-centric approach to our work, and we’ll take care to spend all the time that’s required to help you feel secure and empowered by your choice.

Some of the main benefits that come along with oncoplastic breast reduction include:

  • Only one surgical session is required, so repeat procedures aren’t necessary.
  • Larger tumors can be removed.
  • This procedure creates naturally symmetrical breasts without augmentation.
  • Oncoplastic breast reduction can help you avoid the need to expose any surgical wounds to radiation therapy, which can be dangerous.

The Procedure Itself

An oncoplastic breast reduction surgery begins with the complete removal of the tumor and any other cancerous tissues that may be present. While these tissues are removed, a small margin of healthy tissues around the tumor will also be excised. This helps Dr. Srinivasa and her team ensure that any and all dangerous tissues have been completely removed.

Once the lumpectomy has been performed successfully, the plastic surgery component of the procedure will begin. Breast reduction techniques will be used to reduce the size of the breast, creating a natural and perky shape. If desired, the size of the other breast can be reduced at the same time, for an even greater sense of symmetry between the two breasts.

Our patients particularly appreciate the fact that this procedure eliminates the need for them to experience any significant asymmetry: Since both procedures are performed at the same time, patients wake up with a symmetrical bust that looks just as good as it did before their operation, if not better.
